Plan Your Visit
The American Maple Museum is open seasonally from Memorial Day through early September. Plan about two hours for a thorough self-guided tour of all three floors, or longer if you like to read every label (we recommend it). Visitors are welcome to bring lunch and eat in the picnic area; the gift shop and dining room are open during regular hours.

What to Expect
The museum is a small, three-floor building with self-guided exhibits. Each room has audio-tape narration that explains the displays — bring a friend who likes to read aloud, or just enjoy them in order. Plan two hours for a thorough visit; some visitors stay longer.
Getting Here
9756 State Route 812, Croghan, NY 13327. Croghan is in Lewis County, in the Adirondack foothills, about 40 minutes east of Watertown and 90 minutes north of Syracuse. The museum sits on Route 812 in the village — across the street from the gas station; you really can't miss it. Directions and parking
What to Wear
The museum is largely climate-controlled but has working windows that may be open on warm days. Comfortable shoes for the stairs (three floors, no elevator). A light jacket for cooler days; the third floor in particular runs cool.
Accessibility
The museum is housed in a historic former school building with three floors and no elevator. The first floor — including the sugar house replica and the Maple Hall of Fame — is accessible from the main entrance. The second and third floors are reached by stairs only. If you have specific accessibility questions, please call ahead and we'll talk through what we can do.
Food & Drink
The museum does not have a café. There is a picnic area on the grounds; visitors are welcome to bring lunch. The village of Croghan has a handful of restaurants and a grocery store within easy walking distance. The dining room inside the museum is reserved for pancake breakfasts and special events. Photography
Personal, non-flash photography is welcome throughout the museum. Flash photography near the older photographs and document displays is discouraged — the artifacts are decades old and light-sensitive. Commercial or large-scale photo shoots require advance permission from the museum.
School & Group Tours
School groups are welcome, particularly during the early-summer weekday hours. Group admission is $1 per student with adult chaperones admitted free. Reservations are required at least one week in advance — call (315) 346-1107 or email [email protected].
Other Things to Do in Croghan
The American Maple Museum is one of three small museums in the Croghan area. The Croghan Mennonite Museum and a regional Railway Museum operate seasonally as well — though their hours are more limited than ours. Croghan also has a bakery, a meat market, and the surrounding countryside is beautiful for a drive. Lewis County is part of the broader Tug Hill region of New York State.
